Shark Finning and Shark Fishing Photos Showing This Cruel Practice |
 |
|
Shark finning is the practice of removing the fins from the shark for use in soups and traditional medicines. In many cases the still alive shark is thrown back into the water, either to be eaten by predators, or to suffocate because it can no longer propel itself through the water to pass oxygen over its gills. While not every shark harvested for shark fins is finned alive, the practice is widespread because it saves time and cargo space. Shark meat is worth a fraction of the value of the shark fin. Be aware that many of these photos are graphic and disturbing.
