Bottlenose Dolphin Pictures Showing Behaviors and Charateristics of this Curious Cetacean

Bottlenose Dolphins are not endangered. Their future is currently foreseen to be stable because of their abundance and high adaptability. However, some specific populations are threatened due to various environmental changes. Bottlenose dolphins are vulnerable to pollution, habitat alteration, boat collisions, human feeding of and swimming with wild animals, and boating activities. The bottlenose dolphin is protected in the U.S. by the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Both incidental and direct exploitation of bottlenose dolphins occur. Bottlenose dolphins are accidentally caught in a variety of fishing gear, including gillnets, purse seiners used to catch tuna, and shrimp trawls. These dolphins also are occasional victims of harpoon and drive fisheries. Conflict of interactions between common Bottlenose Dolphins and coastal, small scale commercial fisheries has been reported in a number of Mediterranean areas. Bottlenose Dolphins are attracted to fishing nets activities because they make it easier for the dolphins to exploit a concentrated food source. Live captures of bottlenose dolphins for captivity have had effects on some local dolphin populations in the Gulf of Mexico and southeastern United States.
