Susan Dabritz was raised in Andes,
New York in the heart of the Catskill Mountains. She went to
college in the Bronx at the State University of New York Maritime
College, Fort Schuyler. She became a certified scuba diver
in 1982 with her open water diving done in Long Island Sound.
She graduated college in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in Meteorology
and Oceanography and an U.S.C.G. unlimited tonnage Third Mate's
license. After graduation Sue went on to work for Mobil Oil
Corporation sailing on their oil tankers. She sailed for five
years with Mobil along the West Coast of the United States,
Central America and to Asia gaining enough sea time to upgrade
to an unlimited tonnage Second Mate's license. She had a chance
meeting with her old college boyfriend (Mingta) in Singapore
and subsequently decided to move there permanently. She spent
5 years working for a Norwegian ship broking firm and her weekends
were spent diving, photographing, and traveling throughout
Southeast Asia. After her company disbanded she went to Thailand
and completed her scuba diving instructor certification then
joined her husband, Mingta, teaching diving and working on
board his 75' liveaboard dive vessel. The M.V. Angin Barat
traveled from Singapore to Malaysia and Indonesia for some
incredible diving. In 1996 Sue and Mingta finally decided to
move back to the United States to the Big Island of Hawaii
where their daughter Kaili was born. She was hired by Doug
Perrine as an office assistant at Innerspace Visions and eventually
ran his entire office. She learned all aspects of the stock
photo business from Doug and her photo editing skills from
her co-worker, Masa Ushioda. Sue bought the company, which
had been renamed SeaPics.com, from Doug in September 2003.
The office moved to a new location and Masa and Tamara came
with her to form the backbone of the company. Doug Perrine
continues to serve as traveling ambassador, recruiting new
photographers. Tamara left the company in 2006 to pursue other
interests, and Sue hired Lynn Webber as SeaPics.com new office
manager and bookkeeper. Christine Sheppard joined the company
in October of 2006, and Kevin Miller joined in early 2007,
each bringing their own skills and strengths to the company. |
